A Little Princess

Dear Ones,

Before I came to Osaka, the people at Osaka Christian College naturally wondered what the new TA, Elizabeth Hogenmiller, would be like. Even the security guard offered his speculations about the newcomer whom he playfully dubbed, “Queen Elizabeth.” Building on this droll title, when Seike-san first showed me my apartment, she invited me to have a look at “my kingdom.” What a lovely attitude with which to begin my stay! As I began to explore “my kingdom,” I was overwhelmed at its wonders. Not too far from a queen, I felt like Sarah in A Little Princess when she wakes up to find unbelievable luxuries filling her attic room. I opened every door and drawer to find surprises on each try. Food and cooking utensils, dishes and wares, appliances and electronics—my attic had it all. The princess-plush bedcover even mimicked the luxurious silken spread Sarah woke up to on that extraordinary, magical morning. Please enjoy the following virtual tour of my Osakan kingdom!

The brown door is where I enter from the street. The college is just a little further down.

The reddish door is where the Parry's drive their car in. My apt. is the building you see.

They play Mickey Mouse music every morning.

I wonder if this is how the term "thinking cap" originated.

I hope you enjoyed the tour! It's a cheerful little place. But, as we all know, no place is perfect. My first cockroach paid me a visit the other day! Ah! I didn't now what to do--it was soo big! It was way too big for this wimpy girl to squish, so I trapped it under a piece of tupperware and decided to ask Seike-san for help. She came to save the day...and laughed hysterically when she saw how I'd dealt with the giant vermin so far. :)

Look at her go!

My hero!

Have a wonderful day everyone! I miss you!

With love,

Beth

  2. Well.. Elizabeth... I must say that your stay overseas seems to be quite the storybook experience. I suggest you continue with the plot for our entertainment and pleasure.

    Happy Birthday Little Princess!!

  3. Hey there! You have a "new" couch -- Cassie had an old, very uncomfortable couch. Do you like it?

Also, I feel like a stalker, but I love reading blogs that people write in different countries. I hope you don't mind that I read & comment. Hope everything is wonderful in Japan-land. :)
